AT - unseasonably warm - lows mid 40's Sat morning and high of 65 sunday afternoon
Rain Saturday and windy and clear Sunday
With temps forecasted in the 60 this weekend I made it a point to sneak away for some fishing.
Got to the lake just after dark on Friday and headed to a nearby creek that has been holding bait over the last few weeks....bait was still there but very scattered....consistently put dollar bills and a couple good size money makers into the net 2 at a time until I had 3 to 4 dozens bait to last the weekend.
Started Saturday morning upriver with not another boat in sight. Immediately had a bite and missed the fish - then had another good chase up along the bank with the bait being swirled on a half dozen times but no luck. Continued fishing without much luck until we finally got 1 28 inch fish on a fluke right before noon.
Took a break and decided to try a mid BW creek to be out of the wind a bit and switch it up....went to the back of the creek and started pulling baits out and BAM - BAM we had a double on within 2 minutes - another 28 inch fish aling with a 32 incher and we were stoked and ready to cacth some more......and never got another bite the rest of the day.
Sunday we headed upriver again and once again we were the only boat. Put boards out right before sunup and mmediately caught a 28 incher on an un-weighted planer. We caught 8 more the rest of the morning all on downlines with 4 of the fish in the 32-34 inch range and the others being 26-28. The smaller 4 and 5 inch baits did us best over the weekend. The money-makers were pretty much ignored all weekend....go figure.
