Fished the tournament for the first time in a couple years. Brought some of the finest cured out shad I caught the week before and fished all planer and bobber freelines and some downlines midday. We headed out in the dark which was a mistake as apparently there was a drag race to get up river. I had already planned to fish further down the lake since Friday was crowded up river I knew everyone would be gunning that way early.
After a short ride it started getting light and a few fish started busting around us. I grab the casting rod as 6:45 approached. Lines in arrived and I made a few casts before putting out the spread. No bites on artificial. Before I could get the third board out the back planer took off and we were hooked up. My buddy netted a nice 35” as my only other board out took off. I did what any good buddy would do and let him hold my fish in the net while I fought the other fish to the boat. This one went 28.5”. We released both fish before 7:00am.
I thought this would be a high fish caught day but I was wrong. We pulled this area for a few hours without another bite. Made a couple moves and never found another fish all day. Glad we got our 2 but made for a long day.
Sunday morning we headed out first thing in the same place and I did get my buddy on one fish before we had to go.
