Alright, I’ll post a report. Fished the mafia tournament with my buddies Keith and Brock. We were all swamped with work last week, so we discussed whether it even made sense to fish the tournament as we’d have limited time to catch good bait, but decided to give it a shot anyways. Keith got out Friday for an hour or so at lunch, and I got to the lake about 4:15 Friday and mward was nice enough to let me borrow his boat to throw for about an hour before dark. We had no issue getting 40-50 6-9” baits (they were schooled in about 20-40ft of water; 52ish degree surface water), but I wasn’t thrilled about the size to go out and try to catch some studs on. We decided a day fishing is better than the alternative. We fished mid-lake most of the day to avoid the crowds. There were plenty of stripers around (most fish I’ve seen in 6-7yrs to be honest) and we boated a decent number of 26-29” fish. Everything came on freelined planer boards run pretty shallow in the water column. In my opinion, we needed a miracle or a mongo to get a look at anything bigger. Luckily though, we entered the green fish pot, because they were chomping down all morning. We caught 2 LM citations, a citation smallmouth, and two other 4-5lb LM. Biggest 2 went 24” and 8lbs with a 21” 5lb smallie. The 24”er took the green fish pot and saved the day. Believe we finished about 16th on the striper side. Water was anywhere from upper 40s to 53-54 depending on location and time of day. Best two stripers we could muster Our “trophy” hat
