Fall Brawl Wrap-up
1st - thank you all for a great Fall Brawl tournament - as mentioned we set record #s in terms of youth anglers, lady anglers and overall anglers. We also raised $550 for Mission 22 in their work to help prevent veteran suicide. You all are what make these tournaments happen and can't thank you enough.
A few things to note:
- I recognize the check-in line post-tournament was a bit lengthy - with almost 60 teams, and most converging at one time it creates a logistical challenge. For Winter if our numbers look to be similar I am looking at ways we can run the check-in in parallel - some IT issues that will have to be figured out but I'm looking at it to make that easier on you - and easier on me - as we grow
- Apologies for a couple of slip-ups on the results display - I caught a last minute data entry error when putting the slides together that changed the 7th placing team and I missed on the 8th place update, and then somehow mistyped the total length on the 7th place team - but the placing results were correct. Also know that on the Sunday after the event I always go back through EVERY picture to review to ensure the right length was recorded and the overall results are correct - and if something needs to be corrected, it will be made right.
- Detailed results are published on the Website - www.StriperMafia.com/results
- As stated, we expanded our polygraph testing this season to two individuals from each team that would be tested. This event we tested the 1st Place and the 2nd Place teams. All four anglers passed the polygraph without any concerns.
- I heard a few reports of some situations out on the docks & water that were not what we would want nor expect from our tournament anglers. Reports of someone taking bait from another angler's tank on the dock overnight, a few reports of a specific boat that was throwing a cast net within 20' of another angler fishing and then running circles around them, then the same boat running up a creek teams were fishing and washing out the back and running out - and a few others - of course I only heard one side of the story on these, and often things are not as malicious as you may think when it happens. I just ask that everyone keep in mind that these tournaments are to be fun - and keep in mind "would I want someone to do that to me" and act accordingly.
OK - enough of that. I'm already planning for the Winter Classic and look forward to seeing everyone again for another great event. In order to keep making these events as good as possible, I need your feedback - as much or more on what you didn't like or think may need changing as is what you did like. So PLEASE, send me your feedback on topics such as:
- Captain's Meeting location & logistics
- Pre-tournament & during tournament communications
- Post-Tournament Awards location & venue
- Awards presentation
- distribution of raffle prizes & cash-back raffles
- anything else that comes to mind
As we look to December, a few things to think about:
- We are limited ultimately by the # of measuring boards available and ready at tournament time - I have approx 62-65 total that I can source - perhaps could scrounge up another few last minute, but when I'm out, I'm out. This means PLEASE PRE-REGISTER EARLY, and if your plans change, let me know ASAP.
- We will have TWO Captain's Meetings in December - the 1st at Magnum Point Marina from 4-6:30, and the 2nd at Halesford Harbor Inn from 7:30-9:30. Make a point to come out to Magnum Point Marina and have dinner and get checked in - support our lead Sponsor for the series.
- I had some questions about the rules around drinking at the tournament. The rules state no drinking on the water - this is for your safety and that of others on the water. At the post-tournament Captain's Meeting, I have no issue with you having a responsible beverage, HOWEVER, if you feel you might be "in the money", I STRONGLY advise you to stick to the Diet Soda - as alcohol can affect the results of a polygraph and you could be DQ'ed and I would hate to have to DQ someone due to a bad test that legitimately delivered the goods. So please, keep this in mind.
I look forward to seeing you all in December - let's hope for good fishing weather, easy bait and a strong bite!
