This one should win the award for the furthest away report - live from Shanghai, China. I arrive in from several days in Taiwan and get to my hotel - I look out the window..... hummm.... wonder if there might be fish in that little bit of water down there.... Plenty of locals wetting a line on the February day in the upper 50's What do you know - there there are fish here.... I think I've stumbled on SS's secret honey hole - these guys were loading the baskets up with these black carp looking fish.... Fishing with poles that would make a crappie fisherman envious - some of them had to be 20' long.... Fishing with what looked like 4 lb or so test, and these little float bead things (4 or so spaced a few inches a part), or a very small basla wood needle float and then what appeared to be some type of dough-like bait. When they hooked a fish, if they had a "short" pole like the guy above they'd work it to the bank and use a long handled net to land the fish, or the guys the long poles would retract the sections pole to get it close enough to the bank and then land it. Saw four or five baskets with 6 or more of these fish.... May have to find myself a pole on Sunday..... ;D

You win for sure the award for the lake that is far far away. Now if you get a pole and a hot plate you can catch some and fry them up in the hotel room. Yum!!! ;D

StriperSeeker - ain't no WAY that I'm eating anything that comes out of that water ;D Of course, for all we know they are down there catching what will show up on our plates next week a "Chilean Black Sea Bass" or "Tilipia"

More "scouting" this afternoon - can't sit in the dang hotel room all day - and it was a nice clear day in Shanghai, pretty windy but that meant the smog was not hanging around and a nice day for a walk.... Back to the fishin' hole - found where this section of the "lake" was netted off - clearly has to be stocked - maybe daily - based on the rate the guys are pulling those carp out of there. It got me to wondering if these were "Asian Carp" - you know, given it's in Asia - was wondering what would happen if I fired up a small outboard in there - would the fish start flying out of the water and smackin' folks in the head However, I kept exploring the area..... I found another fishing hole that may be a little more my speed.... ;D Although, I'll say that the catch rate over in the other area was a whole lot higher than what I saw going on in this 2nd spot. (although once that girl in the 1st pic took the rod from her granddad, she managed to catch one )

yep - little ones......
Kind of like the trout-fishing "pond" at the boat shows - they dragged their little hooks with bait around and tried to get it in the fish's mouth - the fish would nibble / mouth the bait but only if they actually took a good bite did they have a chance of hooking one. Only saw one "landed" in about 10 min of watching.... and there were a lot of dads and grand-dads "helping" ;D

Thats actually pretty cool if you think about it. A great way to introduce a kid to fishing and quality child parent/grandparent time. Oh and that bag of fresh fish, should be ok to eat, it is Asain Striper after all
