The ole perch hole was loaded this morning. Found them in 15-18ā of water in back of a cove. They was a little finicky biting, but we managed probably 50 or so. Took home 28 keepers. Also caught a 5 lb channel cat. Perch was laying on bottom, had to drop bait down to bottom and raise it back up slowly to get a hit, stationary bait was not getting hit. Night crawlers and smelt colored gulp minnows was the best

You know I wonder the same thing, Iām always curious when cleaning fish as to what they have been eating. I checked the gullet of several of the ones I caught but found nothing, other than one had a half digested crawfish in it. So I have no idea what they are eating š¤

Stomach is always empty when I check them too. Maybe it is crawfish larvae or even baby crawfish.

In my opinion, that's why the other perch in the school are following the hooked fish to the boat. They are trying to eat the spit up stomach contents. "Easy pickings"

Is there a better time to go say early morning, mid morning? Seems like it depends on the day. Have had days where its been a first light bite, other days where we've whacked em at lunchtime and other days where they wouldn't eat till dusk. They eat pretty much any time you can put bait in their face. However, the mega school action is where it's at and the schools come and go.

Is there a better time to go say early morning, mid morning? I have found that on average they bite better early morning, but I rarely find them in huge schools early in the morning...... I believe they scatter at night to feed in shallow water and school back up during the day.... but that is just my opinion. I have also caught them really well at night, usually bigger ones, just by bottom fishing points. Also have a friend that exclusively fishes for them at night, he fishes lights where you would normally find baitfish.
