Strange little incident the other night. I have a 2007 225 Optimax with very few hours for its age, and the bulk of those coming in the last three years. I was cruising up the lake in the 3000 rpm range. I had been running for maybe 15 minutes without touching the throttle. All of the sudden it starts to accelerate on its own. I’m a little taken back and throttle back a little and it responds correctly. It goes just a little ways, then starts throttling down. I get back on throttle and it powers up. I hit the s curves about that time so I’m back and forth on the throttle a bit moving through there. I cruise on into a spot and stop to fish. After a bit I fire it up and it runs fine on back to the house, about 10-15 minutes. Never struggled a bit coming up on plane. It almost seemed like it didn’t like that prolonged time with no throttle input from me. Thoughts?

Drive by wire? Throttle by wire?
I had a Honda with electric throttle and it was touchy. Seemed like the difference in 1/2 and WOT was just a bump of the throttle lever. If you weren't careful it'd toss you in the floor when it went WOT like that. I cant say that it ever changed speeds by itself though.

If the rpms just went up could have been in the prop hub but I am not sure if they can slip intermittent.

Made a long run today without incident. Only thing I could find was the oil line coming in to the oil tank on the motor was in just a bit of a bind against the throttle linkage. Seemed reasonable, and in line with looking at the simplest things first. Let’s hope that got it.
