Went out late this rainy morning with a boat full as I had a friend and his two boys along. Was a nice morning for fishing, even as we endured a few pretty good showers. Bait catchers were out in force as I encountered Yam, JohnK, and Bolt this morning. We had to work at it but finally started putting something together on the crappie. Jigs were outpacing the minnows until we hit a tree in the back of a creek in about 6 feet of water. I tried repeatedly with the jig with nary a bite while a minnow close to the tree would result in a fish flashing out to grab it. We ended up with about 15 good ones that all got a release today. Things have definitely changed in the last two weeks. Two weeks ago I was smoking them on a deep brush pile. There hasn’t been a fish on the pile since and they have pulled in close to shallow cover.

I sure hope I didn't disturb you crappie fishing. In fact, if you are crappie fishing and I come rolling in with my eyes all crossed and a net dangling... Please tell me to go somewhere else. I try to not impede on others fishing but am keenly aware that I get tunnel vision when I'm on the hunt. Again, feel free to yell at me.

Didn’t bother us. We were moving out of the back of Betty’s as you were moving in. The boys found it interesting to watch you throw the net.

I can say without doubt that you were in the right place and I was not. In other words, I caught a ton of crappie there in my net and nothing but little shad. Really nice crappie too!

And by the time we looked for them back there a couple days later, the place seemed like a ghost town.
