I went fishing today. What a beautiful day it was. I fished all day with a tank full of 12-14 inch baits. Fishing was decent in the evening. And just as it was starting to get really good, my trolling motor batteries died. Thus I decided to call it quits. However, as I was emptying out my tank, 2 absolutely gorgeous mongos were looking at me. I just couldn't throw them back. So....I turned on my big motor and quickly rolled out two boards as far as my eyes could see. I figured..."What the heck! The further out they were, the less negative my motor would be." I doubt I was doing this for 5 minutes when all of a sudden my inner board went flying. My drag went nuts and I had a heck of a time controlling this fish. Not having the trolling motor is a major disadvantage. After a complete circle around my boat and unraveling the line from the board that was still out there , I was very fortunate to land this absolute PIG. FAT FAT FAT!!! 37.5 inches but 22 pounds! Springtime fishing is ON!!!

That’s awesome Yam I have often thought about the big motor. My new mercury has a troll setting where I can run the rpms down to 550 so it will get down to about 2.2 mph. May have to try it.

I can tell you one thing. You can get the boards out lightning quick!
I think there might be something to the irregular speeds. I would go from virtually standstill to 4 mph and then gradually back down to standstill. The fish hit just I was starting to accelerate back up. It's almost like treating a live bait like a lure.
Key components: 1. Big hearty bait. 2. Open water. Not a creek. 3. No boats.
I look forward to trying this again!

i expect nothing less Yammy. nice work!
i actually tried this method last Sunday when the Wind really picked up and my TM died, i kept going in and out of neutral to try and keep my speed as close to 2mph as possible, and kept my bow into the wind....i just didnt catch a slob so i thought nothing of it.

We usually have to rent boats as we only come down once or twice a year. Last year it was so windy that the trolling motor on our rental would not push us so we used the big motor the whole time. We had pretty good success and I actually caught my pb 36” 19 lbs! It may not be ideal but it gets the job done I guess!
