Has anybody noticed any spawning action around the lake even if it is in ponds. My dad is a local lake assistant lake warden and some of the boys have been saying they are seeing bass on beds. I don't think the water is warm enough, I was just wondering if anybody had seen anything going on around the lake. i have been doing a ton of fishing lately and have not seen any bass even showing signs of spawning and i have fished for the last week and a half straight. Been catching a lot on these new baits made by twin boys in my area. Check out their work, the link is in my description.

No, water is still in the upper 40s and low 50s most places at SML. I'm sure there are some starting to move up shallow in the prespawn phase to feed, but you won't see many on beds yet. Should at least another couple weeks.

there is a body of evidence that many of the bigger fish will move up to beds at 54-57 degrees. any colder than that and the fry are not likely to survive.

if the dogwood trees are budding, the bass are moving up to prespawn. when the dogwoods are blooming the bass are spawning. also look for water temps around 55

just remember to throw those egg-laden females back this year, penhook. i know you like to keep some, which is fine, but letting them lay their eggs first only helps to preserve the fishery for you to keep some when you want...
