March 2, 2019 Saturday 1000-600pm Weather- Sunny Breeze at times -after 400pm cloudy & air temp drop Sunrise 650am set 613pm peak 920am-220pm moonset 2:42pm rating good on calendar Roanoke River Flow USGS ROA 3.85/1500 water temp 46-47
Clarity turbidity- Poor/bad 18 inches visibility Pressure others fishing sunny Saturday seen- no gulls some bait surface breaks rarely seen Trolled up to 4 lines average 2.0-2.5 mph
Plugs averaged 13-20 feet deep and often bumped bottom catching leaves, plastic bags etc. Caught one striper around 36 inches around 440pm on an orange Krave no rattles in plug (all other stripers this year were on loud rattle plugs) Trolled through area multiply times and jigged and casted plastics no takes -looked like they were there on not so great sonar unit (purchased for ice fishing many years ago) The idea was troll to find-um cast to catch-um.
8 hours on water- say 7 hours fishing multiply lines byself catch per unit effort 20 hours equals one think its time to practice with the castnet
Weapons on choice from the Muskie Box Caught at 440pm trolling

Nice fish, wondered how long it would take you to transition over to bait.

Please do not laugh to hard when you see me learning to throw the cast net. Been gearing up for bait change over and fly fishing for stripers. Thank you drag for posting your reports makes me wonder whats on the end of my line every time I get a hit. Trolling has yielded a nice channel catfish, muskie and multiply stripers. Think my son will enjoy the slow boat rides reel soon.

FH, I'm a new bait-convert, too. No one will laugh at your net skills as compared to mine!

I encourage the switch to bait, it is a steep learning curve , but you will catch more and bigger fish! In the meantime, while trolling, try the deep diving redfins and thundersticks.

Some how I missed this report, nice detail and you caught one to beat the skunk for the day. Bait is an addictive way to striper fish, some days I find myself wanting to catch bait more than fish. There are many other folks here who are much better at catching bait and I but feel free to reach out if you have any questions or want to practice watching someone throw. ( i learned by watching others over and over)
Edit* Now I realize this is 2 years old. Offer still stand about cast net stuff but I’d bet you’ve made the switch by now.
