Hey guys, my names Weston, just wanted to introduce myself. I have been a fishing freak for about 6 years now, I’m 18 years old, so I’m about the youngest you’ll see out there. Started out with no knowledge of how to fish for striper at all, eventually after about a year and a half of work I saved up enough money to purchase my first boat. It’s a 1999 Tracker Pro team 165, and ever since then I’ve been learning every time I’m out on the water. The striper forums have been a huge help too to at least have an idea of where to start. Anyways, just a young guy, learning how to read the waters of SML, I appreciate any advice I’m given. I first got “hooked” on striper one after noon fishing the Roanoke with live Shad and accidentally got on a school of striper and caught about 6 of them. I’ve been chasing em ever since. And haven’t caught a single one since, but I have learned so much by those days when nothing gets in then boat. My grandfather used to be a striper charter captain down in Oregon inlet North Carolina when they used to run down there. Anyways if you see me out there give me a holler, I’m always open to talk. I’m down at the lake about once a week whenever I can get out. Just a kid in a boat with striper dreams, tight lines!

Welcome Weston!!! Honestly, you get out of this site by what you put into it. Lots of good folks on here that are more than willing to help young, up and coming fisherman. Participate, get to know folks, and prove yourself to be a good steward of the fishery. You are on the right track, as time on the water is invaluable. Airborne is right, lots of good info in older post. Some of the best fishermen on the lake are members here. However, they have refined their craft and rarely put all they know on the open site. Since I fish mainly the Roanoke side, I will be in touch with you. tidbit #1 While most fisherman HATE fishing in the wind, to quote Bob Dylan: (since you are only 18, you prolly don't know who that is ) "the answer my friend is blowing in the wind." Windswept days, pushing the bait to the shore can be very productive.

Appreciate the info! I take anything I can get, I’ll have to keep that wind tip in mind for sure. And thanks for the advice, I’ll definitely be reading back on old posts for sure.

Welcome Weston!
i liked to think i was the young gun of the forum, but you have me beat by plenty of years.
do you know what side of the lake/what boat ramp you usually put in at? I would say most of the guys on here fish primarily the RR side of the lake. But for guys like me over on the Blackwater side, thats a bit too far of a ride in the early morning cold.
either way, welcome!
