Met up Friday morning with my tourney partners camoboatguy and reelitinman for breakfast to discuss our bait tactics and to scout for tourney day. We weren’t in a big hurry with the temps right around 30. We got out on the lake around 10ish. We had some bait in the cage so we put a few in the tank and decided to take a long ride up the BW to check out water conditions. Water was pretty stained the further we went up. We went further up than I have ever ventured. We put out a couple boards and made a pull. After a little while with no love we decided to find some cleaner water. Stopped in at a mid BW creek and put out another spread. Marked a few fish and had a little action but nothing to write home about. We decided to go on a bait hunt to try and fill the tank with fresh bait for the tourney. Hit pay dirt on the first stop and was able to fill the tank in a short time. With time winding down we decide to scout out one more creek and call it a day.
Saturday, Tournament Day. My son Wyatt wasn’t able to fish this on due to a basketball game but he called us as soon as he got up and gave us our daily fishermans prayer. With the intel we gathered the day before we pulled off the dock around 6:15am to head to our spot for lines in at 7am. Wasn’t long after we started our first pull we put a 26 1/2” striper in the boat. He came on a light line channel side board. Feeling good with the ice broke we made a move. With our next spread out Reelitinman starts throwing flukes at the points and hooks up on a fat 28 3/4”. With the pressure off we pulled the rest of that bank and decided to make another move. Headed up BW to a nearby creek to make a pull. Didn’t have any action and pulled back out to the main channel. Gettin close to lunch time we make up our minds we are gonna head to cleaner water down lake. We arrive at our destination and put out a couple bank boards, a channel board and a couple down rods. Not long in to the pull the inside bank board goes under. I grab the rod and the fish is running right to the boat. Board floats up with no fish and the bait un-harmed. The outside board takes off the same way. Camoboatguy runs the exact play I just did. No fish and bait is still kickin. We re-bait make a quick turn around to see what’s up. As we get in the area again inside board takes off and I hook up and land our second 28 3/4” fish. As we are measuring and taking pics camoboatguy yells fish on and the second board gets nailed. After a good fight we net up a 35 1/4” striper. A couple hundred yards down reelitinman hooks up a short on a fluke. The snow starts in and it’s a winter fishing wonderland in short time. We end up hooking one more that pops the hook after a short battle. Feeling ok with our 2 fish we head to check in with 64” inches. I was hoping for a top 10 finish and was pleasantly surprised to find team Reely Bleessed in the top 5. We had a great day on the water fishing for a great cause. It was so awesome seeing everyone come out in the cold and snow to support such a sweet little girl. This is what fishing, Striper Mafia, the community, and our guides that donated trips is all about. We were Reely Blessed to be apart of it.
