The cost of Virginia boat registration and titling may be going up. Proposed Regulation Amendment 4VAC15-380-120. Watercraft: Motorboat Numbering. Certificate of Registration and Titling Fees.
The Department of Game and Inland Fisheries (DGIF) is the principal boating agency in Virginia, which means that it is responsible for registration and titling of all vessels owned and operated in the Commonwealth as well as education and law enforcement efforts directed at ensuring the safe operation of those vessels. In order to provide these services adequately at the high standard of support that has come to be expected by all those who enjoy boating in Virginia, the DGIF depends almost exclusively on annual revenue associated with vessel registration and titling. The current proposal represents a modest increase to registration and titling fees so that DGIF can continue this level of service while still adapting to a consistent increase in normal operating expenses over the past decade. The addition of subsection B is to list titling fees within this regulation, where previously they were not listed in any regulation.
