Man my first trip down in a long time but we had a blast...I ended up with 5 striper, 3 on a Bama rig and 2 on a jigging spoon and my buddy got one on a jerkbait and one on the Bama rig and we each had a few pull off also...most of them were 28/29 inches but I got one in the slot at 32 inches...man they are so much bigger than the Anna striper.
I also caught a hybrid/wiper...are they common down there I didn’t realize there was any in sml?

To my knowledge there aren’t any hybrids in SML?

Yea, that’s what a few people told me that’s why I posted on here. Figured somebody on here would know. I’ll see if I can post a pic but it was def a hybrid.

Would be interested in a pic as hybrids are not stocked on SML for genetic reasons

Here’s Psuhntr’s pic. Sure does look like a hybrid to me too. Not supposed to be any in SML but I guess you never know what might get slipped in somehow

That does indeed look like a hybrid...

Probably got washed down here from Minnesota during all the rains we’ve gotten this year.😂

Like to see about 200,000 of them.

White bass have solid stripes, not broken. The broken stripes are characteristic of hybrid

Some white bass have broken lines just like some stripers have broken lines - doesn’t mean it’s a hybrid just solely because it has broken lines. It could be a hybrid, but my first guess based on the single picture/angle would be a white bass.

Also White bass would only have 1 line extend to the tail. Hybrid will have multiple lines extend to the tail. In the picture you can see multiple lines extend to the tail. The broken lines generally are genetic abnormalities, that’s why hybrid bass have them and usually not in white bass. Probably same reason some landlocked striper have broken lines, genetics. Spent 40 years fishing buggs for hybrid, crappie, white bass, and perch. From the picture I would say it’s a hybrid that’s somehow gotten in the lake.

Check out the difference in the first line below the lateral line, for the white bass & hybrid in this graphic. Then look at the first line below the lateral line in the picture that was posted. It looks to me that in the picture posted the line is distinct and unbroken, making it a hybrid.

I sent the pic to Dan Wilson, our DGIF biologist. He said it does indeed look like a hybrid. Confirmed they are not stocked in SML, but they are Carvin’s Cove and perhaps made its way over somehow
