11/3 WT 65ish, Windy
pulled out from the ramp at 7:00 and went searching for bait. Not easy to get what we were looking for. Headed up the RR side about 9 to find a spot to not get blown away. Headed to the back of a large creek and set out a full spread from freelines to downlines. Had 2 fish blow up on 2 freeline boards at the same time while trying to get one out of a tree. Didnt hook up with either fish. Pulled a while longer in the creek with a couple chases and pulls all on freeline boards but no hook ups. Decuded to run back down lake to another creek and didnt get a whiff there. Gave up at 1230 with fighting the wind.
11/4 WT still 65ish
Left the ramp at 12:00 in a Solo trip and went on the bait hunt again. First creek was crickets. Went to another spot we finally found bait the day before and loaded up in 2 throws with 50+ $bill and money makers in 30' water. Headed back up RR side to a spot I wanted to fish the day before but knew it wouldnt be easy with the high winds. First set was 2 freeline and 1 light line on boards bank side and 1 downline, 1 light line and 1 freeline channel side. As soon as the spread was out all 3 freelines blow up and take off at once. Was not able to get a hook in the first fish. One bait was gone and 2 more were skinned from the dorsal fin back. At thins point I decided I had a little something to fix that, pulled the set in and looped back around. Put the set back out with some changes. 2 freeline, 2 light line, and 2 freeline with stingers!! Started the pull again and one stinger line went off with a bang. Got the fish up to the boat and it was a BIG one. I noticed the stinger barely had it in the gill plate. As I'm trying to get a net under the fish the stinger broke and fish swam away. 😠continued my pull and ended up boating 3 fish. A 31, 32, and a 35.5. All 3 boated fish were on the stinger only and barely in the mouth. Had many more chases and blow ups but if it wasnt stung you got a dead bait. Wanted to stay for a bit longer but the wind brought some stuff back off the banks I wanted to be able to see and good thing I did!
Final observations:
All 3 boated fish were fat!
Fish were up on flats looking for bait.
All action was on freelines bank side except for 1 time.
Fishing by yourself can be tough!
Always keep some stingers tied and ready!
