halfheartedly searched for bait Fri. afternoon with the plan of fishing Sat post Ryder Cup. Shad were MIA....hit all the usual spots with literally no bait to show for it....peanuts were everywhere and I kept repeating BigUn's mantra about pencil sizes vs. signatures....but I wanted to test the stripes appetite for big bait.....all to no avail. It made me realize how much I have to learn about shad movement....I couldn't think of anywhere else to look...and thats not good. My water temps were not consistent with others...I saw 76-77. For some reason completely unbeknown to me...the shad moved in nicely by Sat. 3PM....one and done with 15 dollar bills to almost mongo.....ran an assortment of free and light lines for a few hours. Lot's of lookers, no takers. I do believe they're still interested in ales. Pulling the mouth of a creek ( BigUn again..." in Oct think mouths of creeks! "...the inside board got absolutely pounded.....big fight....big fish. 36.5'' 18lbs on the boga. Nice way to start the season...Lund2 can't believe it. He thinks that cow was just waiting for him to show. I still don't know how to upload a pic....Lund 2 - can you throw one on for your old man?

The question is....if you pinch that tail and really put the nose to the bump board...does she go 37”?.....or just shy of citation

Very nicely done Lund1! And easiest way I have found to do photos on the forum is by using the Tapatalk app on my phone.

thanks for the pics tips...but I have an even better solution...asking Lund2 to upload for me....SO much easier then Tapatalk.
MWard - don't be such a citation spoiler!...(even though I know she wasn't 37")..... I was hustling to get that fish back in the water and should've taken a minute to spin her around but didn't. Any chance that measuring board might be off a few fractions?
C'mon 62 degrees.......

Any chance that measuring board might be off a few fractions? I can make a "Fisherman's Lying Board" if you want

Any chance that measuring board might be off a few fractions? I can make a "Fisherman's Lying Board" if you want I've seen those "lying boards", you could actually buy them at one time. You could put a 12" fish on the board, and it would measure as a 16" fish on the board. (Lowest number on board is 16", but the 16" line is actually only 12" from the end of the board (the bump"). It's actually quite funny to hold up a small fish (at least 12 inches) and tell someone it's a 16" fish. If they doubt you, just verify it on your "lying board", and see how they react.!

Nice fish!! Bigun is not deserving of any credit for the fish you caught. Way to adapt and overcome!!! Heck, I don't even remember saying that.... Possible PUI But most definitely " ITS NOT THE SIZE OF THE PENCILE THAT COUNTS, ITS HOW YOU SIGN YOUR NAME" oh, actually, around the third week or so of October there should be fish in the creeks, with plenty more to come in November. Chasing the birds during the cold weather is fun and exciting, but to much time wasted. I've found that just staying put and fishing the creeks to be much more productive. Good to hear from you lund…….

lund, forgot to comment on the bait and the bait catching.... "If at first you don't succeed"... well... you are just like the rest of us on here.

It is very nice to read a Lund1 report. Time flies and most things change. But Lund1's passion remains the same. Comforting, to say the least.
Looks like you caught yourself a yamtation! That is, a fish that is often times perceived as a citation by the catcher and is clearly above 36", but would require a sledge hammer to reach 37". No doubt, a great start!
Thanks for the report!

Yep...a yamtation indeed. Actually I knew she was short by a bit....Lund 2 was hopeful that a little tail pinch might do the trick...the eternal optimism of youth vs that nagging negativity of 6 decades. That’s why I love fishing with Christopher...every day on the water is “ friggen awesome”....

"that nagging negativity of 6 decades" - isn't that the Webster's definition of experience....or was it wisdom?
