Last spring I was given some advice from bentrod, yam and others that I should get some group 31 batteries for longer run time. Now with fall around the corner I am in the market for two batteries and battery trays. If any of you guys have any recommendations on brand I would appreciate your input. Also if any of you know of any sale deals going on please let me know.

My recommendation is the Northstar 31 AGM's. A buddy of mine has the X2Power 31 AGM's in his bass boat and loves them. He got them from Batteries Plus and got a 48 month free replacement warranty.

Sorry, I didn't state I was going with lead acid. Found Duracell's @ Sams Club for $99.00. Anyone have an idea what company makes Duracell?

The Duracells/Dekas that I have had were good batteries. I ended up with some Johnson Controls on my last set bc of price - $72 for 29GRP were hard to beat. That was through Advance Auto as they let you use 25% off online coupons and then pick up in store. With the lead acid batteries, I generally just buy whichever one is the best price assuming all else is equal spec wise. They’re pretty much all made by 2 or 3 manufacturers.

+1 on Dekas. Longest lasting, most reliable batts I've used.
IMHO, you made a smart move staying w/ traditional wet cell batts. I recognize the benefits of the newer battery technology - all good. I also recognize there are fewer places that carry them than wet cell batts. Case in point, I'm at our FoM national championship on Chickamauga 4 years ago. My partner had AGMs in his sled. One failed. Closest place we could find one was 200 miles away. I had wet cell batts. One failed. I went to the Walmart in Dayton, showed them my receipt from last battery purchase, and walked out w/ a brand new one. Was back in action in 30 mins.
The group 31s will give you lots of life - trolling, electronix, whatever.

If you are good with battery maintenance stick with the wet cells. Battery access on my boat is less than ideal and I think my next set of trolling batts are going to be group 31 agm duracells from sams. You cant beat the $179 price. Just tired of replacing batteries every year at $99-$110 a pop. So we’ll see how it goes.

I'm curious guys. I have a 24 volt system and it seems like when the batteries get about 4 years old they are pretty much done. I just use regular deep cycle 12 v batteries. I use a minn kota digital charger to top them off.
Anyone have a similar experience as to the life of regular deep cycle batteries? (I do admit I run them hard and put 'em to bet wet so to speak)

That sounds typical. Do you check the water and top them off?

No. They are supposed to be "maintenance free" so I've never checked the water/fluid level. Probably should. Thanks for the advice.

Thanks guys, I took advantage of the Advance Auto Labor Day online sale... 25% off. Thanks for the info bentrod. Base price went up some since you bought yours, but still a great deal. The 2 interstate batteries I am replacing with a larger group size will be 3 years old at the end of this month . They have been well maintained with a on board charger and are still strong. I really hate to turn them in as cores. If any one is interested in them for 40.00 each shoot me a Pm.
