Hey Guys, I'm in Lynchburg with my wife until Friday and I want to fish SML for the next 2 mornings. I am limited to a kayak with no bait tank so I'm using lures. She's in class all day so I'm solo...
Any my advice on boat ramps and tactics for large and smallmouth fishing? Are the fish off points so I can drop shot? Are pleasure boaters an issue? This is my first time fishing at SML.
Your help would be really appreciated.

The rec boats will be a factor. Not as bad as the weekends but when you're in a 'yak any wake is a bad wake.
Points are definitely an option. So are deep brush/rock piles, ledges, and offshore structure. The state park ramp puts you in an area that's somewhat protected. There is plenty of deep water, a good selection of points, and lots of wood/brush to work. If you don't have electronix on your 'yak this might be your best option.
Drop shot will always be a good option. I would consider a jig, c-rig, shakyhead, and t-rig for deeper presentations. Have something top water (spook, Sammy) tied on for early in the AM. Moving bait bite will be hit-n-miss. A DT10 or DT16 would be good choices.

I was down Saturday and put in at Hardy at daylight. I went down the lake and fished between the old Chandler Bros. store and Lynville creek. Early morning caught some on topwater until about 8:00am, most were right against the bank on steep drops. The wind got up and we switched to shakeyheads with small plastic craws. These worked for a while with the fish still being along steep banks, most hit on the fall. Fished until 10:30am and headed home to keep momma happy by doing some "Honey-Do's".

Thank you so much! That really helps. I have sonar on my kayak so I think it will help. I'm going in the morning so I'll let you know how it goes. What colors work well?

Id consider putting in a Mitchells Point Marina. Parking may be an issue after you get in the water. This puts you in Craddocks creek. Plenty of good fishing and the rec boaters tend to be a little better.
