Back on the 1st of May I finally had the opportunity to get up to the mountain for the first time for 2018. it was a beautiful day and I was just happy for some water time. Bait was tough, but I enjoyed the hunt and finally had enough pieces to put out a couple lines with a few more in the tank. I only managed one fish that day, as it seemed most were just playing with their food, but the one I did boat was a nice one at 34" or so (I didn't have my board laid out straight in the picture). She smacked the poor bait four times before bending the rod--it was great!
My excuse for so little fishing lately is that I've been offered a new job in NC. The transition has been almost a year in the works and has had my head in two places at once for quite some time. Ive got to get a house on the market now and then get out looking for another once I get settled in temporary housing. All this with four youngins who are going to miss their routine.
The move will take me about two hours down the road--two hours away from SML--and thats the reason for the farewell in the title. Doesn't mean that I won't be checking in every now and then, but it is likely that I wont have much to post up being that I'll actually be closer to the coast than the mountain. Given the choice between fresh and saltwater--I'm forever a salty kind of guy.
I have managed to get out on the water a couple times since my last SML trip--once for our family's Spring vacation on Oak Island, where I crossed Jack Crevalle off my list, and once for a Florida trip that me and a couple of buddies planned last year. In Florida we fished the gulf stream where it swings within a mile or so off the beach, and allows a fella in a plastic boat to get out there in the blue water with the pelagics! We had a good time, and I came home with what might be the picture of a lifetime.
As always, thank you guys for a great forum, as well as all the great content. I've always had a ball fishing SML, and quite of bit of that was learned here on this board.
Until next time,
Isaac
