I hope it is OK to report on my striper fishing trip yesterday with a guide on the Potomac River. Now living in Richmond and never having fished the Chesapeake Bay area (my only striper experience has been SML), I wanted to sample the striped bass fishing on/near the Bay. I asked my nephew to go with me for a half day. We hired Capt. Bart Jones of Citation Situation charters out of Lewisetta, Va which is on the Potomac near the Bay. Unfortunately, Capt. Bart had engine problems with his boat the evening before our trip so he asked one of his fellow charter captains, Capt. David Rowe of Bay Quest Fishing to take us on his boat. Capt. Bart came along and acted as mate and they both gave us a great experience.
We fished the Potomac not far from Coles Point. Anchored in about 30' of water, started chumming and proceeded to catch 22 stripers and 3 nice catfish in 4 hours. We used cut bait (menhaden) on lines with no weight and one or two with small weights. None of the stripers were very large....most were 24 - 27", some were smaller. We were aware that the trophy fishing was mostly over for now in that area. Nevertheless, it was a fun four hours.
I am headed to my lake house on Craddock this Saturday and will be there for three weeks so looking forward to some lake fishing. Certainly not expecting to catch 22 per day .
