Had the pleasure to fish the Striper Club fun in the sun tournament with MWard.
Fished down lake from 6a-3p with water temps 70-73 end of day.
We set off in the rain and headed to an area we both have had luck in the past. In short order Mike had landed a smallie on a planer board freeline with an ale. At that point I realized I had left the token card in the pickup. 🤬. We continued the pull with the hopes than any fish caught wouldn’t be in the slot. Very shortly after I had a fish on a channel side board. He measured around 27ish and in the bait tank he went, off to the truck to get the token card we went. The ride in the tank gave the fish time to recover and pics on the board weren’t so easy.
We decided to head a little up lake and see what we could find. We ended up finding a couple more fish scattered with one of an unmentioned size that may have been on the hook for a while. In the area was a bank I found while night fishing with choochoo that I wanted to pull. We put the boards on the bank and Mike hooked up on a dandy of a fish. About 30 feet from the boat we got a look at the back and monster of a tail on the fish before he came unbuttoned. After reeling the line in we discovered the fish straightened out a 4/0 Owners circle hook and left a piece of lip for a souvenir. 🤬
I then had a tip and we decided to head to another spot down and around the corner. After pulling up to the spot we soon were on fish, lots of fish! We ended up boating 3-4 more with the biggest being just shy of 30” when Mike threw light tackle top water at them. We had schools, fish on the surface, fish taking lines and crossing every other line out, a fish with a plug in his mouth tangled in the net, flopping on the floor, etc. I was trying to get measurements while Mike was reeling more in. Ended up losing another good fish in the madness with some cut lines and fish “manhood” everywhere to show for it. At this point we gave what bait I had left to a buddy there that was out and tried to head to make it to check in. Soon after leaving I realized we probably weren’t going to make it but after all that who cares. We would have had 3rd but the catching and madness with Mike was worth more to me.
The bait we gave to a buddy helped him catch 12 more fish after we left with the biggest being 37”. He sent plenty of pics to show what we left including one of a triple.
Fish were caught on Ales, Gizzards, and artificial
