Looking to get some batteries for my new to me trolling motor. It is a Minn Kota 36v. Found a good price on some group 29 dual purpose. Would I be ok with these or should I get deep cycle only. They will only be used for the trolling motor.

I think that you'd be better served with true deep cycle batteries; however, the dual purpose will work just fine, just be sure that you keep in mind the potentially-much-shorter lifespan when assessing whether or not the lower price equates to better value. Just my $0.02.

I would think deep cycle would do better in this application as well. I also think having a 3 bank charger on them is a good investment. I keep my batteries hooked up to a minn Kota charger year around. I think it makes a big difference in your barriers to keep them topped off even when the boat is not being used. If you have or know anyone with a Costco account you can get deep cycle interstate batteries for $72.

I do the same charging routine as bushwacker. Deep cycle is the better option but either will work.

Thanks everyone for the advice. I am going with true deep cycle batteries. The dual purpose are not that much cheaper. Especially if the life span is gonna be shorter.
