I had the chance to run out for a few hours on what was a fairly warm evening so me and a pal took advantage. Didn’t want to run far so we stayed mid Roanoke. Was happy to see 60 degree water, so I was optimistic that we may hear some alewives flipping. That never really happened in the time we were out which was basically 8PM till midnight. What did happen was some fish biting. We were throwing subsurface plugs midway back in a creek and it was productive. Had trouble keeping them buttoned as about 10 hookups brought 5 to the boat. Biggest was around 26-28 inches. Folks I will say this, I have already caught more fish under 18 inches than I caught all of last year. I know that many of our secret stalkers will see this report so I urge everyone to be easy on what seems to be an excellent class of young fish that are coming along. Please, just get a picture and ease them back.

I’m going to give it a try tomorrow night. Trying to put my brother in law on his first striper. Any creeks that you would recommend trying?

I was catching them last week in the Halesford area just after dark.
