Hey everyone, my name is Whit and I'm kind of new fishing SML. I have a 16' jon boat with a 9.5 evinrude (not much, but it works) i was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for fishing for crappie, where to launch (i know most people don't want to give specifics)
I've launched once at Gills Creek and i've heard that the blackwater side is best for crappie.
Any input or help would be greatly appreciated, also if theres some pointers on where to hit some striped bass as well.
Thanks and tight lines

The public ramps closest to numbers of crappies would be scruggs (up gills) and hardy. You’ll also have a chance at stripers in those areas at this time of year. As for specific spots, any lay down, dock, or brushpile has potential to hold crappies in those areas.

Hello,
my name is Chad. I have been fishing SML for a few years; however, I have had very little luck. I am hoping to have a great season with my two young children on our small 14ft jon boat. Thanks you for all your contribution to this thread. I have already learned a lot.
Blessing
Chad F.

With that small of a boat you would be fine putting in at crafts church boat ramp, it is at the very end of Webster Road in Glade Hill. From there you will be in the upper part of blackwater, very good crappie fishing anywhere ya turn from there, actually the bank to left of this ramp has always been a good spot to catch crappie in the spring, lots of pine blow downs in the water, boat traffic not bad up that way either

Look forward to chatting with you....although I must say, you learn more when you're not catching fish than you do when you are catching them.
Welcome Aboard!!!

My name is Kevin and I'm new to fishing SML and Virgina waters, grew up in MN fishing many lakes there. I tend to look for pan fish, perch, crappie good for frying up and eating. I live on the north end of the lake near Beaver Dam Creek and have been looking for fish up and down the lake in creeks and coves. I have had some luck but nothing I would call good. If anyone has any advise on the best places north of the bridge it would be greatly appreciated. I have a 24 ft pontoon so not sure it that causes any issues. Hope to see some of you out on the lake.
