James River Shad

Hit the zoo that is Ancarrow's Landing in Richmond on fri 3/6.  Wind was howling but it was warm and got there about 10AM. Ramp and river were as always...pretty crazy.  Always humbling to be fishing 25 feet from a guy in another boat who is hosing em every other cast while you cast into the barren and empty empty abyss.     Slow start but slowly got dialed in on a pattern and eventually got on some fish.  Headed out just before the Friday afternoon boats came pouring in.  Got back to ramp at 2...loaded up finally about 2:30.  Always an adventure.

How many were people catching and what size?

Fish were scattered all over shallow and deep. I stayed up above 95 bridge and most guys weren't getting down deep enough. Fly rod guys were steady the whole day though. Some guys caught none. Took me about 2 hrs to dial in color, speed and weight. Even then spotty but steady. Most were decent size herring females...a few smaller males mixed in. Was gonna try for stripers in the PM but it was too windy
