So now that I have figured out which model fish finder I want. I can’t figure out if I want the 9inch screen or the12. I’m just not sure the the 12 is worth $850 more. Any advice?

I’ve got 2 7” screens. One is side scan all the time and the other is downscan/sonar or map. I can see pretty much everything I want with them, and the whole setup was a lot cheaper than a 9” or a 12” screen.
Personally I don’t see a need for a 12” screen unless you are relying on it to make you money. You could have a 20” screen and it ain’t gonna put anymore fish in the boat if you don’t know where to look in the first place or what to do when you find them.

I can't remember what the pixel density on the 9 vs 12 is these days - in the older HDS units the density was actually a little better on the 9, so you got crisper images. The two screen approach is often a good route as you can get full pixel density resolution for side-scan and you get better allocation of real-estate - and used to be you could get two 7's for the price of a 12 and almost the price of a 9.
A lot also depends where you plan to mount the unit, where you will be standing and your eyes if the 9 vs 12 helps you personally as well.

What model did you set on, that would be a difference in the response, if you are Going Elite TI, the 9 is the best bang for the buck, if you are going Hook 2, go 12", if you are going Simrad, the biggest your wallet can withstand. Biggest thing is buy the newest tech available, and you will get longer use out of it. I am still pimpin around with no side scan, and it aint stopped me from bearing down on them....

I have two 7s as well.. I wish I had one 7” and one 8”. The 7” is plenty big for sonar but, for side scan the 7” is a tad small. The 8” is much better than 7” imo for side scan.

worth every penny. resolution and detail gained by the bigger screen will be an invaluable help.
