I recently bought a boat and now am looking to put a good finder on it. I’m thinking about something around 7 to 10 inch. I have some ideas but wanted to see what you guys think.

What are you going to be fishing for?

I will primarily be fishing for striper. I will use it to find fish and bait. And would like something I can plot locations too.

Get the biggest you can afford. Once you buy a 7” you will want a 10”. I would get one that has side and down scan. I have an elite 7ti with total scan. I link it to my iPad to have a 2nd screen facing the front of the boat works out good. I’ve had it a year and a half I like it just wish I would have got the bigger screen.

I have the Simrad GO7 XSE with total scan (pretty much the same unit as bush's). I love it, only wish I had bought larger.

I had 7" Garmins. Striker and Echomap. Loved them. Like everyone else I wanted larger screens. I now have 2 9" elite ti's. I havnt been on the water yet with them to give my review. What I can say is Garmin maps blow lowrance/simrad out the water. You can see screenshots of the garmins in my thread in the market where I sold them.

Lots of good ideas here. Thanks for the responses. Not sure if it’s making my decisions easer or harder.

So I have decided which unit I want to buy but still need some help. I’m trying to decide between a 12 inch screen or a 9 inch screen. My biggest question is if the 12 is worth $850 more? I’ve been back and forth for several days now and can not decide. The 12 would be really nice but the tight ass in me is having trouble with the additionall $850. What do you think?

To me depends on what you are going to do with it. We use ours to find bait then we go fish where we have caught them before. For that 9" is plenty. We hardly ever even mark fish when we catch them. If you were using it to pin point fish in brush or on humps then I would go 12" for added pixels/definition.
