WT: 43-45
AT: Saturday-High of 35 freezing Rain; Sunday- Sunny high around 55; Monday- overcast/misty high around 45
Technique: 6 rods. one float out the back, 2 bank side planar boards (no weight), one bank side board with 3/8th oz, 2 channel side boards with weight.
Got up to the lake Friday Evening around 6pm to try and make some bait. after collecting a little Intel from fellow fisherman very very slowly made my way to my bait hole. there was a pretty good wind blowing friday night and had me really nervous to hit debris, so i pretty much went idle speed to and from my bait hole which took a few hours.
got about 15 good gizzard between 9-16" and most of those were 12" and up.
Started Saturday morning and it was cold and just kept getting colder all day. pulled a creek all morning with no love, ran to another nearby spot and after a few points connected with this nice 34.5" fish to keep the skunk off the boat.
My buddy and i stayed in for the afternoon Saturday. decided that freezing rain was too much for us since we had plenty of more time throughout the weekend. Caught a good tank of bait for the next day though.
Sunday morning we were at our spot by the time we had enough light to put out boards and see em. same setup as the day before in terms of gear. started marking fish right away but was getting no love. kept on pulling and finally got some interest on the furthest bankside board. a nice chase and connected and boated a 29" fish. kept pulling that same stretch of water and about 100 yards down we got some interest in a channel side board and missed a fish. rebaited and set the rod back out, and 3 min later had a fish on that rod. the fish went on multiple long runs and we new we had a goodin on. after about 10-12 min we got him on board. My new PB (by length) at 37" and 16.5lbs.....pretty sure thats considered a citation?
fished for the evening bit on Sunday and boated one other smalller fish and the largest green fish i've seen in person 9.5lbs on the Bogas..truly a trophy, wish a took a pic.
Woke up Monday morning and was a bit turned off by the rain but decided to snooze the alarm once and then hit the water. pulled the same stretch of water that i started on Sunday morning. action was pretty fast off the bat. we got interest in our Float right behind the boat starting pretty soon after arriving. the interest in the float stayed for a while but i didnt think much of it. i generally put the largest shad i have on the float...and today was no different, with a healthy 16" True super Mongo literally fighting stripes that are not fit to devour him. all the sudden it sounded like someone dropped a concrete block out of a plane behind my boat. turned around to see the super Mongo truly struggling to fight off this stripe. the stripe finally put him down and I hit him with a hookset and he did not like that......ran for about 50 yards and we had a fight on our hands. I gave the rod to my buddy (as i had landed a large fish the day earlier) and we finally boated this very healthy 37" 17.5lb pig.
we proceeded to pull across the main channel and hit another point, where our furthest outside board got crushed on about 3FOW. the fish pulled drag to the middle of the creek, surfaced so we could see his size, then the fight was on. fought him for about 10 min and got him boatside. and he was big, all as big as the 37" fish we had just boated, if not a few inches on him. I mean I've never seen a shoulder on a fish like this. After this 3rd run we got him to the boat and he was tired. as i lifted the rod tip to bring him to the net i felt the hook give.....he seemed to stand still for a second, as if taunting me to jump for him with a net in my hand (the thought went through my head). as he realized he was no longer hooked he slowly swam out of view.
Man will that keep ya coming back.
