Can you guys give me a primer on handling balloons for live bait? I am considering it is so you can drift the bait deeper than using a cork and then the balloon somehow pops off so it doesn't interpose with the fight?
Got into the kings with live bait last weekend, preferred to drift the bait a little deeper than is comfortable to do with a standard cork--plus each time the fish hit, the cork ended up popping off in the fight, anyway. I'm cheap, don't like suffering the corks and also don't like littering-latex balloons are biodegradable.
So I have some balloons, tied them on trying various ways-they either popped off on their own when the bait ran or a big wave hit them, or they didn't pop off at all and had to clear the balloon from the line during the fight. Really worried about me.I miss and cut the line, the rod goes you-know-where.....
Thanks in advance
