Sorry I’m a week late on this guys, better late than never. I’ll get this upcoming weekends report up faster.
Got up to the lake Friday evening with buddy from Wilmington and wasn’t on the boat until about 9pm and went hunting for bait.
Found very scattered bills in the back of a creek close by home and started throwing. I would pick up about 1-4 baits on a good throw. By 12:30 I had about 15-20 usable baits, but not exactly what I wanted.
10/28: woke up with my tank of “alright” bait and headed up the BW to a few main Channel points to pull for the morning. Had action right away. We were marking fish and had a few blowups right at first light. 15 min our float gets crushed and we had a fish on that started pulling drag…..2 min into the fight and line goes slack. Reeled in to find a broken 20lb leader (must have had a weakpoint). Kept pulling and 100yards up the bank side board gets chased and hit in about 4 FOW. Fish on. 33” striper in the boat. Turn around to pull that area again and first point we hookup again right off a point maybe 5 FOW. 34” striper in the boat. Hooked up on the next point and this one came unbuttoned halfway to the boat.
Went on a bait hunt, found great bait and loaded the tank with 6-13” gizzard and went in for a little lunch. Back out fishing by 3pm and went to another major creek in the BW. Not a lot of love there. Pulled up and down the creek until dark. Right at last light, on the last point we planned to pull, my buddy had given up hope and was reeling in the channel side boards the bank side board closest to the boat gets slammed. 34” striper in the boat to finish up Saturday.
10/29: Woke up a little later today as knew we had a good tank of bait and we were out a little too early on Saturday. In the same creek I fished Saturday night by first light. Pulled towards the back of the creek with tons of action but no fish would commit. Periodic fish were breaking throughout the creek and I marked a ton of big baits. Pulled until about 9:30 with no fish making contact with a hook. As we crossed the same point we caught a fish on Saturday evening the outside planar board started to do the dance and went under. My buddy sets the hook and we have a fish on. I grab the net and im ready to help my buddy net this fish at the stern of the boat (as he is not a fisherman) when I heard drag start screaming and turn to another rod bowed over. Threw the net down and made it to the road in to set the hook and had a double up going. Helped my buddy net his 26” fish (no picture) and slowly worked my fish to the boat. Ended up being just shy of 35”.
Ended the day ran back to Raleigh so my buddy could make the extra drive back to Wilmington, nc.
I had to skip last weekend in order drink beer and watch college football in raleigh...I'll be back up this weekend hoping it's not too cold to get a few bites
