Hey everyone, I'm Chad and just joined this forum after hearing about you a while back. I recently pre-registered for the SML Mafia tournament, so hopefully you all putting it on will let us fish in it.
My wife and I bought a place on the lake a little over a year ago (Blackwater lower side'ish) and it took me a while to try out the striper fishing. I finally "gave in" after hearing/reading all the hype about them, and after catching my first 6lb'er about 200 yards off my dock (and yes, I was in my boat), I've been trying my best to find more and learn as much as I can about these fish. I haven't been that excited about a fish since my first walleye as a kid back in the midwest. My PB SML striper, well actually it's my dad's, is an 11.5 lb., 31 inch'er ... same general location off my dock. A buddy of mine, from the midwest (who has 'reluctantly' agreed to come out to be my tourney teammate), has bragging rights on me though. He caught a 13 lb., 31.5 inch'er this past spring ... a little further away from my dock, but not by much! Doesn't seem like I have to venture too far away from home!?!?! I may figure out this entire lake in the next 20 years or so!!!
Looking forward to getting to know some of you here on this forum and meeting others during the tournament (11/11/17). We'll be bringing our items for the troop gift boxes if that's still the plan ... great idea and a great cause on a great day!
See you around on the forum/lake!

Welcome Chad plenty to learn here. Lots of good people. My first recommendation would be to put a light on your dock if your setup for live bait fishing. Fish with the bigger ales and pull some banks. Look in the back of the creeks for gizzards and do the same. Main lake points and flats as well as the same in the creeks early mornings

Shadslinger’s second recommendation is to send him the location of your dock once you hang that light

I've be doing a lot of research on the livebait game down here and hope to learn a few things from you 'pros.' I have noticed several boats in our area, at night and early morning, and at first I thought they were just fishing but I've come to learn they must be catching their bait. I'll let you know when I get that light out!!

Mward and Tiltntrim, thanks and I look forward to meeting you guys as well at the tourney meeting and/or check-in. I stumbled across the SM Striper Club site the other day, hope to learn more about that as well.

Hi Chad. Welcome to the board. Your story is one that hits home.
Welcome to the addiction we call striper fishing. There is a long, fun, learning-filled road ahead if you continue. Your success will be correlated to your hard work, desire and ability to acquire the proper tools. Best of luck.

Welcome to the board. I am also on what we call the Dark side, aka The Blackwater. I'm sure you will see me around sometime trying to find bait.
