We have caught several catfish at the lake. And we can't tell if we are catching channels or blues. The pictures on the net show a very distinct difference of the anal fin but it's hard to tell on the 18-24" fish we are catching. Does the lake have both?

No blues in sml. Not to say a few haven't been dropped in by fisherman over the years. I remember Travis caught one around 20lbs years ago. More than likely though your catching either channel cats or possibly white cats

If you count the anal fin that is how to tell if they are blues and channels. Biggest channel I ever caught was 18lb but that's a huge channel. If you catch a fish well over 20lbs it is likely a blue.

ive caught hundreds of the 18-24 inch channel catfish on SML, theyre most likely channels youre catching too. there may be a rare blue in SML, my uncle caught one, but theyre not something youre going to catch frequently. do they have dots or speckles on them? if they do, thats the sign of a channel cat. see the black specks or spots or whatever near the back of the fish? indicative of a channel cat, they usually lose them when they get bigger though
