We will be the tourist this week as it's our first trip to SML. I'm 37 and have hunted and fished most of my life and have a 13 yr old son who is addicted to both. He actually has been tying his own flies for over a year now and will fly fish, bass fish, catfish and salt water fish with me and my wife. We have a 23' pontoon boat that is fairly decent to fish from. We typically go to the OBX for our summer vacation but wanted to try something different. I'm also bringing my mother and father, we will defiantly try to catch a few fish and boat ride up to a few places for dinner and what not. We will stay out of the way and use this week as a relaxing time from work and try to learn the ropes of SML. We are looking forward to it for sure. We will be staying at a house on Lee Drive.

Thanks guys, we have definitely seen what you have been talking about when everyone says the lake will be crazy this week. I guess in a sad way we are part of that craziness for you local guys. We have tried a little fishing at night near the mouth of the dam but had no luck. I just don't know how to fish it, we fish the James and have landed several cats 50 to 60lbs. That's what we do, look for structure on the channel edges in the summer and then fish the flats from fall to spring in the day...we run a gill net or use the cast net for bait. It's frustrating here not exactly knowing what to do just yet. By the looks of the depths I'm guessing most fishing is done in the coves but they have been so crowded. The boy has caught at least 60 small brim (catch and release) and 1 decent Flathead that didn't make it to the release part...we wanted to keep maybe 10 or so, we brought the air freezer so we could enjoy a nice meal once we got home....we are going to try as the week ends for sure!!
