I have a Abu Orra SX20 that I am looking to pair with a good trout rod. I don't know much about the salt at all but tore them up last year. The guys I met and fished with every morning were using long, medium action fast tip rods. We did a lot of fishing off a bridge casting 1/4oz jigs.
Smaller trout we lifted and the larger ones we fought to the end of the bridge and netted.
I'd like a 7', Medium action, Fast tip rod in the $100.00 range (or less).
The outfit will probably be used in ponds around home also.
Any suggestions on a rod and what line (braid vs mono) to use would be appreciated.
Last year I had braid with a floro leader on a baitcast outfit, I held my own but it wore me out and casting off the bridge was not ideal.
I'll be in the OBX from Sept 9th - 16th.
THANKS!!!!

Braid is the way to go. Get the 8 strand, not 4 strand. Casts further and tangles less. Best for trout is 10-15 lb braid main line and just what ncsportfisher said on leader. I use a 7' fast tip for most of my inshore fishing.

This is the exact set up I was using this past weekend when casting using a Lews reel and moss green fluro. I was very impressed with the Berkley Inshore rod for the money. I have since ordered another exact set up I will be using on the lake for casting on striper and Carolina rigging for bass as well as when I head back for inshore fishing.

Full disclosure... yellowdog is at fault for my salt obsession!! And I'm not complaining!

Thanks guys, I am on it. I really appreciate the input!
P.S. Yellowdog was the first one I contacted last year, 5 minutes after I booked the house. He did me right and then some!
