Well this turned out to be a short trip. By the time I left work late, got the dogs, gassed up the truck and sled, then sat in Rocky Mount traffic it was 7pm before I wet a line. Geez.
I searched 15-30' in bull run but nobody was home. Bait was there, but no perch which is odd. Then I saw several mayflies emerge from 10' of water and I moved up. Sure enough they were there eating flies on the bottom. I was getting them two at a time on the double hook dropshot rig. I was also casting shad raps and fat raps up onto the chunk rock shoreline and getting quite a few that way. They'll absolutely crush a crankbait.
I also caught several bass, shell crackers, redbreasted sunfish, and catfish on the crankbaits. That's the first time I've caught shell crackers on a crankbait. I'm guessing it was a colony of beds there.
I ended up keeping 22 of the perch and 5 crackers. No big perch, all around 10". Just big enough for dinner.
The water was 79.

Last weekend the boat was covered in mayflies when we were catfishing in Bull Run. I had to adjust the anchor light so it would not shine so much in the back of the boat. my son uses a little shad rap black and silver and the crackers love it. throws it parallel to the rip rap.

i crushed the white perch of all sizes with nightcrawlers back on memorial day weekend, and didnt catch as many but caught some bigger white perch back at the end of march beginning of april this year. i could never get them to bite lures, atleast not yet.
when i was reflecting on my fishing trip on the way home memorial day weekend, i started proverbially kicking myself for not going to the double drop shot rig, im sure i couldve doubled up a bunch considering the were hitting the nightcrawlers as soon as they hit the water
