I started fly fishing last year specifically to try and catch carp. I know I know seems silly but it is THE most challenging fishing Ive evr attempted, and the fight is unbelievable! Last year was a learning year with few successful outing, this year though.... well lets say Ive figured it out. Started the chase 2 weeks ago and dont plan to stop any time soon.

I know people consider the carp a trash fish, but they are a blast to catch.
We used to carp fish the James River around lynchburg, and had a blast. The James River holds some really big Carp, and lots of them. Also, used to fish for Carp at SML many years ago, and also had a blast with them there.
Never caught them fly fishing, but that is probably a real load of fun.
And your right, they can put up an awesome fight.

What are you using for a fly? My go to is the John Montana hybrid. I tie it up in a lot of variations as far as color and sometimes substitute marabou for a tail instead of chenile

What weight outfit are you using? My main stick is a 7wt but this afternoon I took out a 5wt and landed a 10+ pound fish. Its kinda surprising how light of an outfit you can get away with especially from a kayak.

Awesome! Carp are much smarter and more wary than green fish-I respect them much more. ha-ha !
Did you really make carp burgers? I bow fish some for them and would love to figure out a good recipe.
Does anyone know of good areas on the lake to bow fish for carp? I have done some around the mountain and a little around the state park. I was wondering if there are other areas that you guys see a lot of carp??? And I don't mean Bridgewater marina. LOL
