I am looking to upgrade my trolling motor setup. Currently using a MG X55 wireless. It works well, but of course you have to constantly make adjustments while running boards close to the bank. I am wondering if anyone has experience with the MK I-pilot or MG Xi-5 ? I also may be asking for something that is not possible. What I want is to be able to set up a track and then be able to fish without fooling with the trolling motor. Does this require an interface with the fishfinder? And are either of these units accurate enough to keep me within 50 feet of the bank for 500 yards if I set up the track ? Finally, I have done some reading and the majority of people seem to say the Minn Kota has far superior customer service, but that the MG may be more reliable.
Thanks for your help !

I just upgraded to the MK power drive v2 with I-pilot. This will do what you want but you have to have a fish finder GPS that it is compatible with. I put a Humminbird Helix 7 Chirp DI G2N on the front of my boat and the I-Pilot head unit connects to the Humminbird with a network cable. If you download a Humminbird Chartselect Map ($34.99) of Smith Mountain Lake onto a mini SD card and put it in the SD Slot on the Fish finder GPS you can set the MK to stay any distance off the bank and the speed you want and the MK does its thing and follows the bank keeping you off the bank and letting you spend your time fishing and not working the trolling motor.

Just remember that the Charts are only so accurate and don't know where the laydowns and such are. If you're looking to use it for throwing artificials and staying a ways off the bank it may do what you want but if yo are expecting it to pull boards for you tight to the bank then I expect it will disappoint.
