The Striper Mafia Tournament Series is about many things other than just anglers competing for cash or prizes.
This Series is about creating a venue to educate anglers and the community on issues that affect the striper fishery at SML and elsewhere.
This Series is about creating an opportunity for anglers to connect and build a network with one another.
This Series is about connecting anglers with the small businesses in our community and those that serve the striper fishing commuity.
This Series is about getting the youth - the next generation of our sport - involved in the passion that we love...
.... and this Series is about creating opportunities for our anglers to support worth causes in our community.
Since the start of this series in 2016, anglers that participated have generously contributed the following:
- $500 donated to the Appomattox Red Cross to help the victiums of the February 2016 tornados
- $700 donated to the Stewartsville - Chamblesburg Fire Department in honor of Danny Foster, a long-time angler & member of the Smith Mountain Coast Guard Auxiliary.
- $1300 donated to the family of Chloe who was fighting cancer at Duke University Hospital - Chloe's grandfather is a long-time bass-fisherman on SML.
- Collected 225 toys overall of which included 14 fishing poles and 34 books to be distributed by Lake Christan Ministries to local families who's children would otherwise not receive gifts at Christmas
- Over 360 jars of peanut butter donated to the Food for Kids Backpack program for school children that need nutritional assistance
We are very proud of what this Series has become - and more importantly what those that have participated in the events have helped it become - it makes all the time and energy that goes into putting on these events worthwhile. We are proud to have the opportunity to create this venue to achieve what this series has thus far and look forward to what we can accomplish going forward.
Thank all of you that have supported these events thus far - and for your future support.
