Dan River

Anyone heard tell of stripers being caught along the dan river yet? Last year the Dan got a pretty good run of stripers out of Kerr reservoir, but with the low flow I've been worried it might not happen this year.  With the recent rain I'm more hopeful but haven't seen any yet.

I have been wanting to go for weeks but haven't been able to make the time. Every time I could go the river is raging.

It was still too high to wade and looking like iced coffee when I checked today, though it has come down off its high from last week.  I'm thinking that after it settles down in a few days the fish should be there.  The dogwoods are in bloom--its time.

I fished it 2 or 3 weeks ago , and there was no water. Hope its better this week after it settles back down.

Fished it today for a couple hours. We got water, dirty water, but no stripes yet. Didn't really expect any until it settles a bit more.

Dude.. You are doing what I love to do. Exploring something new. My guess is you will be rewarded and the magnitude of this reward will be correlated with the magnitude of your struggles.

Spent another hour in the river this evening and can confirm that there is at least one striper in the Dan.  Hope he's a scout and and the rest of Kerr reservoir is behind him!

That little guy was the payoff of at least five trips down there since last week, most of them on my lunch break.
