small mouth bass

Does anybody know of any good baits for small mouth bass on sml and where they might be lurking on the lake?

Lower end of the lake towards the dam has been the best for me with smallmouths. Crankbaits, jerkbaits, and plastic crawdad type baits all work well for the smallies.

Would you consider penhook to be lower lake

Not really, that's Blackwater. I think he's talking about closer to the dam. The smallies like those rock piles and rocky points. Keep in mind that they go to beds a little earlier than the LM and tend to bed deeper. They also often like a little more colorful lures than LM. If you look around down there you might find some shoals. Check the down wind side of those if the water's moving. There's some big ones down there.

I have only caught one but my dad caught about an 8 pound smallie and let it go striper fishing

Yep lower end towards the dam, craddock creek area. Have also had some decent luck wmid lake just below the state park as well.

Time to venture out and discover new places

yep last time we were there we found a bank that was about 80 feet deep 15 yards off the shore and got bites caught one but it was a bad week it was the really cold week of july 4th last year we were up there for my birthday july 3 but we had started to venture and find some pretty good spots
