Satrting to look for a new trolling motor battery. My TM is a 12-volt system. Would appreciate any advice. Willing to spend the $$ for an AGM if that is best choice. Lots of sites like the VMax and Optima batteries.
Thanks !

Get the biggest you can handle. I started with 24s from the dealer. I then went up a size and now I'm at 31s. I would never go back. I use Deka Marine Masters.
I looked into all the other types such as AGM and settled for lead acid based on weight, price and power. I can motor around all day on rabbit and still be fully charged at the end of the day.
I pay just under 300 bucks for 3 and make sure to charge them as soon as possible.

On a 12v motor, I would definitely get Group 29s (or 31s as Deka calls them). It'll last a lot longer (in theory) because you won't discharge it as heavily as you might a 24 or 27 group.

Thanks guys. Is there somewhere local to buy the DEKA batteries ? I believe Fisher Auto's wet-cell deep cycle batts are made by Deka.

Before you start using it, open up the cells and see where the water level is. Use this as a reference and periodically check the level. If it gets down some, fill it back up with distilled water after.... REPEAT.... after you charge them.
I've made the the mistake of filling before charging once! Boiling acid is not fun!
