3-19-17.. Middle to upper BW
Water Temp: 46.3 @ 9:00/48.3 @ 4:00
Air Temp: 42 @ 9:00/51 @ 4:00
Wind: It blew!
Initally headed out to target some LM with some shiners in the tank for Crappie or white perch if we marked some while searching.
All of the normal spots I have targeted for LM were already filled with a boat. In fact every spot I intended to try out, already had a boat in it. (Thanks Mega Bass).
Finally found a spot to do some casting and no sooner than we get started some tournament guys pulled in Right ahead of me and proceeded to fish away. (thanks for the nice huge wave from coming off plane within 25 yards of me) Pulled up my trolling motor and snapped the end of a new rod off in the bracket in the hurry to move.
This point I said to Heck with LM fishing and went around the point and found some crappie holding off some structure in about 20 ft of water. Caught a couple and pulled to the side to tie off to a tree out it the water and take lunch about 30 yards away. Oh joy, another boat rolls in and anchors right by us over the crappie we were on.
We had been marking lots of bait so after lunch I decided to throw the net. Found a ball of Ales about 15 ft deep in 25 ft water. After 4 throws to dial in on them in the side scan we had 10 for the tank. Broke out the limited Striper gear I keep on the boat "just in case" and rigged up to do some pulling on floats and U rigs. Nothing In the upper BW area. Pulled lines in and headed back down BW. Pulled some areas mid to lower BW and had a couple rolls on the floats but no takers. Hooked one up on a Umbrella Rig and lost him at the boat. Called it a day after making one more pass in the area. Skunk on the Stripers
Not the best day to introduce my 18 year old cousin to fishing but he said he had fun and wants to go back next weekend... Guess he didn't think the day was as bad as I did.
