I've fished smith a little but not much, does smith have any kind of under water grass/vegetation? I've never been able to find any on graph. Just wondering.

Used to be plenty but grass carp were stocked around 2012 (?) and they wiped it out quickly. There are some isolated patches that pop up from time to time, but there isn't permanent SAV beds that are reliable year after year. The closest thing remaining is some water willow in the shallows.

what was the reason of stocking grass carp, to get reed of the grasses, why would they want to get reed of the grasses, fish habitat?

Was driven by the Smith Mountain Lake Association and concerns / issues of home owners regarding grass choking out their coves and docks and affecting usage and property value. At one point there were some "invasive" grasses and they used to spray areas to try and control it - guess the Carp were seen as a more economical and eco-friendly option.

Wonder with the attemp to stock the lake with the bigger and more aggressive Florida string bass how a lake without a bass's favorite cover will effect thier growth and success? Sounds more like a stripper and recreational lake then a bass lake but like I said in the original post haven't fish it much and am just wondering

there used to be a nice patch of grass out in front of my uncles dock for 3-4 years straight. 2014 was the last year i seen it. made the catfishing tougher, but the bass fishing was better for me those years.
