Page 21 & 22 - www.dgif.virginia.gov/wp-content/uploads/creel-and-length-limits.pdf But the short answer is, unless fishing Lake Moomaw, there is no size or creel limit on white perch in VA. But make sure you know the difference in a white perch and white bass as there is a limit on white bass (5 per person per day) and a few still in SML

Being so similar is there any one go to thing to tell the difference? Sorry the photo is of my computer screen I did comparing them looked better on my phone.

Yep just tongue teeth. I have yet to catch a white bass from our lake. We caught these around our dock when the kids where small using minnows and I don't remember any having stripes that I can see on photos. I guess I kept thinking one had to have been a white bass but I just could not tell the difference. As much as you fish and never caught one I now think we never caught a white bass only perch. Honestly I never paid that much attention because we don't keep fish since we don't eat them but I thought after reading that article I would target some and give them to a co-worker. Thanks for the help.

I had a hard time getting an educated answer from anyone local about what I was catching at Hyco from time to time. Some said white bass, some said white perch, some said hybrids. My unscientific conclusion was that they were white bass, though I didn't know to check for tongue teeth at the time. Thought it may be helpful to have this photo to compare to the pics in the other white perch post from several days ago. smlfishingforums.proboards.com/thread/5614/white-perch

That fish is a white bass. Well, probably. It ain't a white perch, for sure.
I've tried to target white bass here, even went with a guy who said they were catching white bass up in explore park in spring. It was all white perch.

We catch both in tha dan river in tha spring , tha white bass will get alittle bigger and they are strong fish. I used to fish hyco years ago moonyak , and remember caching a few white bass 10 -12 years ago.

That picture makes sense of it tblspoon! The dental work on the tongue, and the not joined dorsal fins, group the three bass apart from the perch. Apply the old Sesame Street game and you'll have your answer.
