I have it. Don't recommend it. Only Lowrance product I regret buying. Gonna do updates on the units this weekend. Hope there are improvements.

I can tell more about what's under the water with side scan and down scan. 3D was really hyped for a while, now you don't hear much about it. Unless there are major improvements made; I think it will go down as an epic dud.

I have it also on my Simrad, and as johnk said I don't see anything great about it. I'm new to the electronics and was thinking that the 3D would be the easiest to learn. Not so, again as johnk mentioned above I can tell more with side and down scan. But, one thing about the transducer that comes with the 3D unit. It gives you a better picture then the other transducer (Lss1-Lss2). Something about more crystals. (Again, this is what other people have said. I can't compare) Maybe johnk can give a little input on the transducer.

12" HDS Gen3. I see no improvement in side/down scan having the 3D transducer and Mod.

My purpose for upgrading is to have a unit on the bow and the center console in hopes of making it easier to find bait. |

It has chirp for sonar. I can not change frequencys on side/down scan. With my previous units I could switch between 455 & 800. Hooked up thru the 3D hardware I can't change.
I have units on consol and bow. Both reading the transducer at the back of the boat. When I am throwing on bait that I see on side or down scan I do a 180 when I like what I am seeing and throw. There was a learning curve but I have become very confident at catching bait this way.
