This is far as I was comfortable in tearing down the reel to apply oil. I'm afraid if I tear it down any farther I will be sending the reel off to be put back together. I am applying oil only to the visible parts. Do yall think this is sufficient. I have 7 more reels to oil up as well. Thanks.

WOW... surprising what 160 dollars does not buy you... Those plastic gears are on the line counter plate... not the drive side. I had to do a double take also....

The link JohnK sent is what I use as well. Everything is quite simple. The only real trick is not losing the spring loaded pin. The toothpick method as shown by Alan is awesome. You also have to make sure that you put the yoke back on in the proper position. It's very easy to put it on upside down and not know the difference. The yoke is part 380 in this diagram. fish.shimano.com/media/fishing/techdocs/en/TEK500lc_v1_m56577569830498843.pdf

To answer your question Harley, I think if you get this far, you should go all the way. You should at the very least, remove all the bearings, and clean them and everything they touch thoroughly.
And don't use silicone or wd40 .. I learned the hard way that silicone will degrade plastic. Reel Klean is the good stuff for cleaning. And I use the Shimano drag grease as well for greasing.

The links you guys provided are GREAT! Thanks JohnK. Also, thanks Yam for encouraging me to go farther in tearing the reel down. I'll give it a try and see what happens.

Well..... here's the latest, the click pin and spring shot into never ever land and is probably doing the moon walk. Haha, I'll probably order a box of the pinsq before I try to disassemble anymorr

One trick I've read about is to do your disassembly in a box turned sideways - creates a few "walls" to catch those parts when they go flying
