Should I go with a 12 volt or 24 volt trolling motor on an 18 foot pontoon boat? How long of a run time do you think I would get on both units. Going with the minn Kota.thanks

Definitely 24volt - nothing worse than finding the bite and running out of TM juice....I went with 36v on my 22'pontoon

More is better. Get the 24 at least.

I have had a 24 volt MG which left me with lots of problems. I would fish hard in snow and wind and end my day with dead batteries. One time the day ended when I went to take a leak and the remote fell in the water. I learned then the MG remote did not float! I came in 4th in the tournament to use my winnings on a new remote. After that season I wanted a major upgrade. I bought a MK ulterra 36 volt. It cost more then my wife's car! Haha that's the truth. The remote floats and with a push of the button the motor will deploy and return to its original position. I would go with a 36 volt. Bigger is better and you will not have regrets.

I'm with Yam - your 'toon is going to be more susceptible to wind and current than a glas boat. You'll need/want all the juice you can get out of your TM. Lots more stay time w/ a 24v vs a 12v. You get even more stay time w/ a 36v.

There was a couple times on my 218 skiff that I wished for a 48v system. Sometimes even 36v isn't enough.
