I have a issue I am trying to figure out. I have a HDS 12 Gen 3 and when I have the Sonar and Side scan up at the same time and place the sonar on medium chirp the side scan get a lot of dots and looks horrible. then I switch back over to 200 KHz it clears up perfectly. Wanted to see if anyone else has the same issue. I know the 200 KHz should only affect the sonar so why does it affect the side scan? I just received a brand new head and transducer with the same result. Any help would be greatly appreciated....

Only help I can provide is check and see if your software is up to date. Possibly was a problem that Lowrance has addressed in a downloadable update.

You can not run Structurescan and Chirp on the same unit. I have 2 Simrad NSS12 evo2's with Structurescan 3d and a High-Wide Chirp transducer. I was told that I can run the chirp transducer on 1 and side scan on the other, but I also are having the same trouble as you. I was then told that I needed to add a cable to separate my units. Have not gotten that cable yet. Lowrance and Simrad is owned by the same company Navico, if you didn't know. Sort of like a Chevrolet Tahoe and a GMC Yukon.

I have a Gen 2 and have the same problem, but honestly get better returns in 200khz than high chirp. The Gen 3 can run both at the same time. Evo 2 and Gen 2 required sonarhub or an older lss1 structurescan box to get both working.

The Gen 3 can run both at the same time. Yep steviejayvaughan is right. After doing some checking I think the new evo3 coming out you can also.

Thanks for all the responses. I had the HDS 9 Gen 3 before a traded it for the 12 and it did not do this. I could run the medium chirp and the side scan with no problem. This just amazes me. I also run a Vexilar Flasher and it runs on the 200MHz so that is the reason I need the chirp.

I read that the chirp frequencies tend to interfere with the 455khz setting of structure scan on those units. Running structure scan on 800khz supposedly clears it up.

Try asking your qtn on bass boat central forums also. They have a whole section dedicated to Lowrance and a bigger audience. I'm sure you can find a better answer over there.

I have and gen2 12 and gen3 12. I run one for chirp and the other for mapping/structure scan. I ran everything out of the gen3 for a little while and changing my frequency to 800 seemed to help alot. Im running 4.0 software on the gen3 and heard there is a 4.5 coming shortly.
