I'm looking to buy a finder soon and have pretty much settled on an HDS. I have limited space and would like to squeeze an HDS 9 in, but I fear a 7 might work the space better. Do y'all think I'll be giving up much between the two? I'm thinking of going all in and getting the 3D imaging. Thanks.

If you can make the 9 work from budget and space do it. Much better resolution and screen size - especially with only one screen.

Bigger is better and will eliminate the "I wonder if I should have" thoughts.

Any thoughts about the 3d imaging? Does 3d help identifying gizzards? How well does it work in shallow water?

choochoo I have the 3D on the boat, call or text me sometime this week and we can go out.
As for anyone wanting to see how the 3D works in person PM me and I will be glad to take you out and you can see for your self. Note that I am still learning it myself!

I just got a 9 gen 2 last month. I'm learning how to use it, but so far I'm using at least 2 way split and often 3 or 4 way split. I would not want a smaller screen if it could be avoided.

2 things you will never hear a fisherman say:
1 - I wish I would have gotten the smaller motor - this is just too much horsepower.
2 - I wish I would have gotten the smaller screen on my fishfinder - seeing this much detail just makes it too difficult.
Get the biggest you can for your space/budget. i would be willing to bet $$$ that the guys with the 12" screens are waiting to jump all over 15" displays when they come out.
